Inside Line Promotions – OWASSO, Okla. (April 17, 2014) – TBJ Promotions and RacinBoys are bringing the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour to Lakeside Speedway on May 8 for only the third time ever.
The McCarthy Auto Group KC Klassic, which is the Thursday of NASCAR weekend at nearby Kansas Speedway, will showcase the premier 360ci sprint car series at the half-mile dirt track for the first time since 2008.
“Lakeside Speedway has a strong history in sprint car racing,” TBJ Promotions Founder Tony Bruce Jr. said. “It’s good to have an ASCS race back there and we’re looking forward to bringing that action back to the fans.”
RacinBoys Co-Founder Scott Traylor, who was born and raised in the Kansas City area, is excited for the dirt slinging, wheel-to-wheel action to return to the historic facility.
“My first trip to Lakeside Speedway was in 1966,” he said. “I can remember it like it was yesterday. There are some that think the sprint car drivers from Kansas City were as good as the drivers from Pennsylvania during that time. There’s a lot of guys who cut their teeth in the early days to create the atmosphere of sprint car racing in this area. I think that’s one of the reasons Kansas City Klassic fits. Lately ASCS has helped bring that atmosphere back to the Kansas City region.”
The May 8 date also creates an opportunity to build on the sprint car audience as the NASCAR weekend kicks off only a few miles away.
“There are a lot of NASCAR drivers who were sprint car drivers,” Bruce Jr. said. “I think a lot of the fans recognize most of the best racers in the world came from sprint cars. It brings their attention to what we’ve got going on as a sport and hopefully we can bring some fans over to show them what sprint car racing is about.”
