Tankersley Finishes Sixth at Heart O’Texas Speedway and Gator Motorplex

Inside Line Promotions – WILLIS, Texas (April 23, 2014) – Channin Tankersley scored a pair of sixth-place finishes last weekend in his season debut with Marvin and Peggy Pearson.

“I had a so-so weekend,” Tankersley said. “We definitely had a lot more speed than what our results showed, but on a good note we were as fast if not faster than the top guys. We caught a couple of bad breaks and that ultimately hurt our results.”

Tankersley opened the ASCS Gulf South Region doubleheader on Friday at Heart O’Texas Speedway in Waco, Texas, by finishing where he started – fifth – in his heat race on the locked-down track. That earned him enough points to start on the inside of the seventh row for the main event.

“It took us probably 10 laps or so before we got into the top 10,” he said. “Then the car was pretty fast. We were going to the front in a hurry. We had a red flag with about 10 laps to go. I guess the tires sealed over. After that restart we weren’t the same.”

Tankersley, who passed the second-most cars during the feature, finished sixth.

The team wrapped up the weekend on Saturday at Gator Motorplex for the 3rd annual Nolan Wren Memorial.

“Right off the bat we were pretty fast,” he said.

Tankersley advanced from fifth to third place in his heat race, which earned him enough points to make it into the feature redraw. He then pulled the No. 1 to start on the pole for the main event. Unfortunately, the car took multiple turns to fire and Tankersley was forced to start at the back of the field.

“We had issues starting the car so we wound up having to tag the back,” he said. “It just wouldn’t fire up. We jacked with it a little bit and they finally got it to fire up.”

On the third attempt the sprint car started and Tankersley began the main event on the final row.

“It was a disappointing start to the A Main, but on a good note we did come from 19th to sixth on a putt-putt track around the bottom,” he said. “On the first start I got about 10 guys in the first two laps. Right after that I was picking them off slowly around the bottom.”

Tankersley’s second straight sixth-place result puts him second in the ASCS Gulf South Region championship standings.

He is taking this weekend off before the next ASCS Gulf South Region doubleheader – May 2 at Golden Triangle Raceway Park in Beaumont, Texas, and May 3 at Battleground Speedway in Highlands, Texas.
