Inside Line Promotions – SUN PRAIRIE, Wis. (July 22, 2014) – Another podium finish highlighted Andrew Felker’s weekend.
Felker, who had a chance to score a trio of top-five finishes last weekend, earned his best result on Saturday with the POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget Series at St. Francois County Raceway in Farmington, Mo.
After finishing fourth in his heat race, Felker lined up on the outside of the sixth row for the main event.
“I fell back to 14th or 15th in the first five laps,” he said. “As things sorted themselves out I got up top and was running the cushion in turns one and two. I used that to pick off quite a few cars. Everybody was staying on the bottom in turns one and two. There was a big two-foot cushion that when I hit it right I could pass a car at a time.”
Felker maneuvered to a third-place result, which was his seventh top five of the season.
The podium finish was sandwiched between a pair of solid nights starting on Friday at Belle-Clair Speedway in Belleville, Ill., with the POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget Series.
Felker powered from seventh to third place in his heat race to line himself up on the outside of the third row for the main event.
“They reworked the track and it was a guessing game,” he said. “At the green flag we were decent. Then we had a red and I moved down to the bottom after the restart and lost three or four spots. The top finally got worn out and I got up to fourth running the bottom. The last couple of laps the bottom went away and we fell to sixth at the checkered. It was kind of an up-and-down race.”
After battling for a top five throughout the feature, Felker ended with a sixth-place finish.
The weekend wrapped up at Angell Park Speedway with Felker driving a RAB Racing entry from seventh to win a heat race. That put him as the high-points driver and he pulled the No. 4 in the feature inversion, which started him on the outside of the second row.
“We were about the last car to push off and then the shifter knob came off,” he said. “I made it to Lap 2 of the feature and the car came out of gear. We had to go to the work area, get some pliers and lock it into gear.”
After restarting at the back of the pack, Felker began to work toward the top five.
“Everybody was running the bottom,” he said. “I ran the top to make most of my passes. I got just outside the top five with about 10 laps to go.”
Unfortunately, mechanical issues forced Felker to give up his position and exit the track in the closing laps. He was credited with a 15th-place result.
He will return to Wisconsin this weekend to drive for RAB Racing on Saturday at Wilmot Raceway in Wilmot and on Sunday at Angell Park Speedway during the Badger Midget Auto Racing Association doubleheader.
