Inside Line Promotions – ATWOOD, Tenn. (Aug. 19, 2014) – Derek Hagar continued his dominance at Clayhill Motorsports on Saturday when he captured his fifth consecutive victory at the track.

“We’ve won five in a row there and swept this year,” he said. “The last two years we’ve swept the races there. It’s usually a real slick race track. On Saturday night it was cowboy up. It had a real big cushion and it was pretty racy.”

Hagar kicked off the night by finishing where he started – second – in his USCS heat race. That put him seventh in overall points, which missed a spot in the feature redraw by only one position and started him on the inside of the fourth row for the 30-lap main event.

“We started off kind of slow and then figured out how to run the car,” he said. “We got a couple of cautions early and I was picking them off one at a time. I got up to fourth behind Terry Gray and he got over the cushion and I barely missed him. We had a red flag and on the restart I drove around Tim Crawley in turns one and two and then slid Morgan Turpen in turn three. We battled pretty hard for the next few laps.”

Hagar charged from third to the lead on a restart around Lap 6 and he was cruising until Crawley executed a slide job with approximately five laps remaining.

“We had a late-race slide job from Crawley and I turned it underneath him to pass him back,” Hagars said.

The victory was Hagar’s 12th of the season and his 28th career USCS win, which ranks fourth on the all-time list. He also earned the Hard Charger Award for passing the most cars.

Hagar opened the weekend last Thursday at Riverside International Speedway in West Memphis, Ark., where he placed second in a heat race. However, after starting the feature on the outside of the fourth row, another car collided with Hagar in the opening laps.

“We got hit in the left rear early in the race and that broke the birdcage,” he said. “I ran it for a while and then it broke the rest of the way. I pulled in about halfway through. We were still able to run in the top 10. It started getting ill handled so I pulled into the infield.”

He was credited with an 18th-place finish.

Hagar is scheduled to compete with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour on Thursday at Riverside International Speedway and on Friday at Lexington 104 Speedway in Lexington, Tenn. He will wrap up the weekend on Saturday at Dixie Speedway in Woodstock, Ga., with the USCS Series.
