Inside Line Promotions – JACKSON, Minn. (Aug. 31, 2014) – Tony Bruce Jr. made the best of the circumstances on Saturday at Jackson Speedway, which was soaked by rain last weekend.

Following a rainout of Friday’s Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour event, the 36th annual Jackson Nationals was downsized into a one-day spectacle on Saturday.

“The track was pretty wet,” he said. “We expected some pretty narrow conditions and fortunately we were able to draw good and get ourselves a heat race win and get in the redraw.”

Bruce Jr., who started his heat race on the outside of the front row, took the lead on the opening lap and never looked back on the narrow track.

“I had to chop Ian (Madsen) pretty hard with the way the race track was,” he said. “It was the first one to give was the first one who loses.”

The heat race win earned Bruce Jr. enough points to advance into the feature redraw. He then pulled the No. 6 in the random draw to line up on the outside of the third row for the main event.

“We got a good start and were sitting fifth after the first lap,” he said. “We rode around and then Mark Dobmeier had a problem so we slid into fourth. We pretty much rode around and pulled tear-offs after that. For the most part it was just right around the bottom.”

Bruce Jr. ended with a fourth-place result, which marked his 11th top five of the season.

“We’ve had top five cars all year long,” he said. “The only thing that has held us back is the amount of DNFs that we’ve had. We’re comfortable with the speed that we have. We just have to keep working on eliminating the DNFs.”

Bruce Jr. will return to action next Sunday at Eagle Raceway in Eagle, Neb., for the Nebraska Cup with the ASCS Midwest Region. He won the prestigious event in 2009.

“It’s been a little while since we’ve visited Victory Lane at Eagle Raceway,” he said. “We’re looking forward to getting back there.”
