Covington Comes Home 3rd And 7th During TMS Double Header Weekend

Covington Motorsports- GLENPOOL, Ok. (Sept 17, 2014) Matt Covington had a pair of solid nights during this past weekend at the Texas Motor Speedway. Matt was able to pick up a 3rd place finish on Friday night, and a 7th place finish on Saturday at TMS with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour.

On Friday night Matt and the team took on the first night of the TMS double header weekend.

After a mid-pack draw Covington would rally in the heat to finish second from the fourth starting spot. Matt would line up in the 8th starting position after the redraw for the feature. In the feature Matt would get a great jump on the start to find him in the top-5 in the first few laps. Matt was able to battle inside the top-5 most of the race before moving into third as the race came to a close. Covington was able to hold the podium finish and secure a lock-in starting spot for Saturday with his third place finish at features end.

Saturday night would have Covington and the crew prepping the car for a strong run after gaining the lock-in starting spot from the previous night’s effort.

After drawing the pole for the main event, Matt would find himself lining up in the front row of the feature. At the drop of the green Covington found himself battling out front with the leaders for a handful of laps before the track started to go away and fade on the top side. While racing out front on top, Matt was unable to find and see the rubber being laid down by the rest of the field toward the bottom of the race track. With a handful of front running cars slipping by Covington would ultimately have to jump in line and join the pack chasing the rubber. The missed track conditions would ultimately force Covington to settle for the seventh finishing position at the drop of the checkers to cap off the double header weekend.

“This past weekend was a tad disappointing for me, but all in all it was a very solid showing for our team,” stated Covington. “We had a very good night Friday and was able to go forward in the heat and feature to lock us in for Saturday. Saturday was tuff for me because anytime you draw the pole you want to capitalize. We burned the LR tire off in lock in hot laps so we came back in and prepared for those conditions. Then at the last minute they decided to water the track a lot and shorten the race. To be honest we just weren’t prepared for that and lost a few spots fighting the car because of that during the race. But we still need to be proud of the effort and I would just like to thank my crew and all our supporters for giving us the chance to have such a positive overall weekend. All we can do is keep plugging away and working hard at it and see if we can’t go to Nebraska this weekend and get us another win or at least a solid top-5.”

Matt and his Covington Motorsports team would like to thank T&L Foundry, Triple X Chassis, A-Rock Materials, Winters, Brodix, C.G. Martin Company, Factor 1 Racing, All-Star Performance, Outlaw Wings, Pro Shocks, DMI Components, Keizer Wheels, ButlerBuilt, Simpson Race Products, GME Steering, Wesmar Racing Engines, Bob Hurley RV, Eaton Industrial, Maxwell Oil, and Schoenfeld Headers for their support in 2014.
