Shark Racing Drivers Remain Positive During Growing Weekend on West Coast

Inside Line Promotions – ANTIOCH, Calif. (March 30, 2015) – Shark Racing drivers Jacob Allen and Logan Schuchart are remaining optimistic throughout growing pains on the West Coast.

The team had bright points during a pair of World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series events last weekend in California, led by Allen’s 11th-place qualifying effort out of 44 cars on Saturday at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico.

“It makes you feel good when you go to a place like Chico where the locals are really good and go 11th out of 44,” he said.

Unfortunately, that success was limited as a mechanical issue didn’t allow Allen to start his heat race, where he was supposed to line up on the outside of the front row. The team changed engines in time for him to make the Last Chance Showdown, where Allen ended 11th.

“I was proud with the help we got to get a motor changed in time,” he said. “I didn’t get to watch where everybody was running (in the heat races) and I don’t have much experience there so that hurt.”

Schuchart said he felt off throughout Saturday night at Silver Dollar Speedway, where he qualified 27th quickest and placed seventh in a heat race to also land in the Last Chance Showdown.

“A lot of these tracks we’ve only been to one time,” he said. “There’s a lot of good cars out here. It’s like running in Pennsylvania. You have all the great Outlaws drivers and then all of the great local teams. It makes it hard when we come to tracks we’re not used to with this level of competition added to the mix. I feel like when we come back to the tracks we’ll be better though.”

Schuchart was in contention for a transfer spot in the Last Chance Showdown, but he collided with a wall and finished 14th.

“In the LCS I was pretty fast,” he said. “I was up to fifth when a car slid up in front of me and I had to get off the gas to not get into him. That put me off the track and into the wall.”

The weekend concluded on Sunday at Antioch Speedway, where Schuchart qualified 25th quickest and Allen 28th. Schuchart placed ninth in a heat race and Allen sixth as both were relegated to the Last Chance Showdown.

“We didn’t time trial well and we weren’t set up well,” Schuchart said. “Every time I hit the track Sunday night I felt like I was slow. We made changes and went the wrong way. It’s the combination of putting yourself in the right position and making the right decisions throughout the night that will lead to success.”

Schuchart finished seventh with Allen ninth in the consolation race.

“We’ll take that as a learning experience,” Allen said. “It’s not what you hope and dream, but I still had fun.”

Shark Racing will be off this weekend before resuming World of Outlaws competition on April 8 at Placerville Speedway in Placerville, Calif.
