Inside Line Promotions – HIGHLANDS, Texas (March 31, 2015) – Travis Rilat wrapped up last weekend with a runner-up result at Battleground Speedway.
“We had a good car on Saturday night,” he said. “We just had to start at the back all night. We had to really work for it.”
Rilat opened the night by drawing the 10th starting position in his ASCS Gulf South Region heat race. He methodically worked his way through half the field to register a fifth-place finish, which was good enough to advance him into the feature redraw. However, he pulled the highest number – eight – during the random redraw to line up on the outside of the fourth row for the main event.
“We had a pretty good car the first two-thirds of the race,” he said. “I think I might have been running third on the first lap. I just went where they weren’t.”
Rilat closed in on the leader in traffic and was set to make a bid for the top spot when a caution came out. The top two didn’t enter traffic again for the remainder of the race as Rilat closed with a second-place finish.
“I think that was a huge improvement from where we had been running this season,” he said. “We’re on the right track.”
The weekend opened last Friday with an ASCS Gulf South Region race at Golden Triangle Raceway Park in Beaumont, Texas. Rilat finished where he started – seventh – in a heat race and another driver collided with him early in the B Main while he was in a transfer position to end the night with a DNF.
