Inside Line Promotions – WACO, Texas (May 25, 2015) – Ray Allen Kulhanek recorded an ASCS Gulf South Region victory for the seventh consecutive year on Friday at Heart O’ Texas Speedway.

Kulhanek rallied from eighth to garner his first triumph of the season during his first official race with a DR2 Racing Engine. The performance moved him up to fourth in the championship standings.

“Winning races definitely helps your confidence,” he said. “I don’t think it takes the pressure off because I stay hard on myself to keep going and to get better and better. I worked really hard this last week in the shop making sure I went through every single thing and just trying to get everything in line like it needed to be.”

The event began with Kulhanek advancing from third to second place in a heat race, which locked him into the feature redraw.

“We started out the night pretty decent,” he said. “I knew I was fast enough in the heat race to win, but with the way the track was, without taking a chance of wrecking a guy, I knew going third to second would put us in the redraw so I didn’t force the issue.”

However, Kulhanek drew the highest number – eight – during the random draw to line up on the outside of the fourth row for the 25-lap main event.

“I knew I wanted to be on the outside line, especially on the start,” he said. “One of the guys ended up wrecking before the race started and that moved us to sixth.”

Kulhanek powered to third place on the opening lap before taking second on Lap 2.

“I took second on the second lap and then paced myself and tried not to make mistakes because the cushion was on the edge of the track,” he said. “I knew as hard as (the leader) was running the cushion wouldn’t hold him the whole race. It worked out in my favor. I just stayed patient and waited for my opportunity.”

Kulhanek took the lead with approximately 10 laps remaining and he cruised to the victory.

Saturday’s ASCS Gulf South Region event at Shady Oaks Speedway in Goliad, Texas, and Sunday at Battleground Speedway in Highlands, Texas, were rained out.

Kulhanek is scheduled to return to action on June 19 at Golden Triangle Raceway Park in Beaumont, Texas, and June 20 at Gator Motorplex in Willis, Texas, with the ASCS Gulf South Region.
