Inside Line Promotions – ERIE, Pa. (May 26, 2015) – Joe Trenca has been ignited by his first top-five finish of the season last weekend.

Trenca kicked off a Patriot Sprint Tour doubleheader last Saturday by scoring a fifth-place result at Stateline Speedway in Busti, N.Y., where he and Mucci Motorsports made its debut at the third-mile track.

“It was good to get a top five and get the first one of the year out of the way,” he said. “We found a good baseline for our car and we’ve been working off that. It worked very well throughout last weekend.”

Trenca opened Saturday’s race by advancing from fourth to third place in a heat race despite a power steering issue. That put him in a dash, where Trenca finished second, which determined starting positions nine through 14.

“It was a very tough track to pass on,” he said. “It was rough, kind of a wild feature. We were seventh and had a green-white-checkered finish. A bunch of guys went to the bottom on the restart and I went to the top and that gained us a couple of spots.”

Trenca took the momentum from the fifth-place finish into Sunday’s event at Eriez Speedway, where he started eighth in a heat race.

“I think we were up to fifth and going after another car and someone spun in front of me and I couldn’t avoid it,” he said. “That made us restart at the back. We got a couple of cars, but finished sixth.”

That lined Trenca up on the outside of the eighth row for the main event.

“We were up to 10th with about five laps to go,” he said. “The track had rubbered down a little bit and we were one of the few cars running the top. We were making our way up through the field slowly, but surely. I got in the loose stuff and lost a bunch of ground. I dropped to 14th and then got two spots at the end.”

Trenca wrapped up the weekend with a 12th-place result.

“It was a good weekend,” he said. “We were happy with the finishes. We’ve got some momentum on our side.”

Trenca returns to Patriot Sprint Tour competition this Friday at Raceway 7 in Conneaut, Ohio, and Saturday at Mercer Raceway Park in Mercer, Pa. He finished eighth and fifth, respectively, at the tracks last season.
