O’Reilly Auto Parts Presents the Outlaws at Lakeside on June 6

The Kansas City area has always had a rich open wheel racing tradition, especially when it comes to sprint cars. This year’s event will mark the sixth straight year that the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series has visited the four-tenths-mile on the Kansas side of Kansas City. Dating back to 1980, the series has contested a total of 15 A-Feature events at Lakeside. A total of eight drivers have picked up World of Outlaws wins at Lakeside.

Swindell is the winningest driver with the series at Lakeside Speedway, with four wins, followed by fellow Hall of Famer and 20-time series champion, Steve Kinser, who won three times at the track. Doug Wolfgang, another Hall of Famer, picked up three checkered flags with the series at the track during his legendary career. Mark Kinser, who also is an inductee into the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame won at Lakeside once during his illustrious career.

Donny Schatz, the six-time and defending series champion, is the current point leader. The third-winningest driver in series history has won at most of the tracks on the schedule, but Lakeside is one of the few he has yet to visit victory lane at. Shane Stewart, who drives for a team co-owned by rising NASCAR star Kyle Larson, has three wins this season and is second in points as he chases his first World of Outlaws title. Brad Sweet, who is Pittman’s teammate at Kasey Kahne Racing, has a pair of wins this season and is third in the standings. Rounding out the top-five are veterans Kerry Madsen and Paul McMahan.

Joey Saldana is currently sixth in points as he chases his first win of the season. He is followed by Pittman, veteran Jason Sides, young gun David Gravel, third-generation driver Kraig Kinser, Australian Jamie Veal, who is filling in for the injured Jason Johnson and sophomore drivers Logan Schuchart and Jacob Allen.
