Inside Line Promotions – TULARE, Calif. (July 27, 2015) – Chase Johnson’s debut at the Peter Murphy Classic ended early last Saturday at Thunderbowl Raceway.

Johnson got upside down midway through a King of the West 410 Sprint Car Series heat race, which resulted in the Shawn and Cyndi Thomas owned team missing the remainder of the night as well as next Saturday’s King of the West event.

“Our night didn’t end well and unfortunately the frame was broken so we parked it after the crash,” he said. “It won’t be fixed by this Saturday so we’ll be looking to get back at it the next King of the West race after that.”

Last Saturday began on a strong note for Johnson, who qualified 15th quickest.

“Our night started out great,” he said. “We had an issue when the birdcage fell apart on us in hot laps. We didn’t get to feel out the car like we hoped to. Then we went out there for qualifying and put together a good lap. That’s exactly what we needed to do.”

It lined Johnson up on the pole of a heat race.

“I didn’t get the jump like I wanted,” he said. “I was rolling around in second place and saw the leader getting away from me. I ended up missing my line and getting in a rut in turn one and upside down I went. I got really sideways and it just grabbed the right rear and right front and rolled itself over. It was a good one. It definitely hurt the car.”

Johnson, who flipped on Lap 4, isn’t slated to compete again until Aug. 8 at Petaluma Speedway in Petaluma, Calif., during the 4th annual Soares Classic.

“I really want to thank my supporters, my family and Shawn and Cyndi Thomas for keeping positive through this rough patch this year,” he said. “We’ll get this turned around and start earning the finishes we deserve soon.”
