Covington Survives Sedalia, Ready For Some Red River Regional Action

Covington Motorsports- GLENPOOL, OK. (Aug. 27, 2015) Matt Covington took on the unique State Fair Speedway in Sedalia, Missouri for the first time in his career last Sunday for the $12,000 to win Casey’s General Store High Roller Classic, presented by Impact4800.com ASCS National Tour event.

Covington found himself starting 7th in his heat after a deep pill draw.

After fighting hard in the heat, Matt managed to advance to the 5th position at the checkers.

Covington’s heat result and passing points were enough to place him into the 16th and final starting position of the A main without having to transfer from the B.

With the heat race and first challenge of the night taken care of, Covington adjusted the car as needed to hopefully make a charge in the feature.

Covington's feature effort was a battle as the track narrowed, making the preferred groove around the bottom. With a good car and patience, Matt slowly worked towards cracking the top-10. He managed to take the 11th position before a late race caution. Once the race resumed, Covington jumped to the top in an attempt to advance as the field was nose to tail on the bottom. However, the top was just too far around and lacked sufficient grip on corner exit to give Covington the speed he needed to make the pass. The top-side effort resulted in Matt losing a handful of spots as the race came to a close and a finish of 16th.

“This past weekend was a luck-of-the-draw type race,” stated Covington. “I had never been to State Fair Speedway and it is very unique and takes some getting used to. We had a decent car all night, but were just not able to catch any breaks. Plus, with the track being narrow and slick, you just had to work to stay in line and take advantage of any mistakes made in front of you. I actually gained a handful of spots and was up to 11th before the late caution. On the restart I tried to make something happen and jumped to the outside, but we ended up losing all the spots we gained. One of those deals. I didn’t come here to run 16th so I was just trying to do what I had to and pass some more cars. But it’s behind us. Now we just need to work hard this coming weekend on some setups and hopefully be able to come away with some momentum after running with the ASCS Red River region this Friday and Saturday night.”
