Joey Ancona Racing Storms from 18th to 7th, Claims Hard Charger Honors at Tulsa Shootout!

Tulsa, OK | January 12, 2015 – Making the long cross-country haul to Tulsa, Oklahoma for just the second time in his career, Joey Ancona shattered all expectations of the 31st annual Tulsa Shootout when he turned in a phenomenal run just one week ago. Piloting his Dryco Construction, Westbury Ironworks, Factory Kahne No. 88 at the Tulsa Expo Raceway, the Concord, California native fought through a heat race, qualifier, semi feature, and LCQ all on his way to a stellar 18th to 7th hard charging main event bid.

Entering the 31st annual event held in the heart of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Ancona felt strong about his chances coming in with a six-win season during 2015. Earning a feature start last year during his Tulsa Shootout debut, Ancona suffered some tough luck and left with a DNF, something he hoped to better in 2016.

Kicking the week off on Wednesday night with his heat race, Ancona ran second in the eight-lapper and snuck his way into a qualifier on Thursday night. After missing some speed early on and working into a rhythm late, he was able to nab a fifth place run in the qualifier.

Competing in Friday’s B-Main, Ancona found confidence as he stormed away with an impressive victory. Transferring into Saturday’s 12-lap Last Chance Qualifier, the young gun put on an incredible display of driving as he worked his way into the second spot and claimed a feature start.

Rolling out in 18th for the 20-lap main event, Ancona was focused on charging to the front, and that he did. Moving his Hamblin Motorsport, Motion Media, Pace Chassis No. 88 high and low, Ancona was a rocket as he stormed through the field and into the top ten. Making moves late into the running, Ancona’s race would come to a close as he crossed the finish line with an unbelievable seventh place run, a bid strong enough to earn him hard charger honors. Bringing an up and down week in Tulsa to a phenomenal end.

Ancona would like to send a special thanks to Dryco Construction, Inc., Westbury Ironworks, Steve Hamblin, Motion Media, Factory Kahne, and crew member Jeff Tucker for their continued support.
