Inside Line Promotions – MARION, Ark. (Feb. 8, 2016) – Derek Hagar is slated to make his winged sprint car season debut this weekend at NEA Speedway.
“Friday is a practice day,” he said. “Saturday they are doing heat races and Sunday will be features. It’s pretty exciting. It’s been a slow winter for the race team. It’d be nice to go out there and try to make a little extra money.”
This $2,000-to-win event, which begins at 3 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday, will mark only the second time Hagar has competed at the quarter-mile oval in Harrisburg, Ark.
“I ran there last year and we finished second,” he said. “It was the first time I’ve been there. It was pretty dusty. Now I kind of know what the track can do. I’ve got to watch it and make sure it plays out in our hands.”
Hagar claimed a dozen feature victories last year, which marked his third straight season with double-digit wins. He’s also won his season opener during two of the last three years.
“It’s always a big deal to start the season off on a strong note,” he said. “There is no better way to kick off the year than by winning and that’s our goal for this weekend.”
