Abreu 21st At Chili Bowl

PETERSEN MEDIA: In just his second attempt competing in the Chili Bowl, Rico Abreu successfully made the championship A-main on Saturday night as he raced his way out of one of the B-mains and scored a 21st place finish in the 55-lap finale.

Abreu’s week got off to a strong start during his Thursday night qualifying night, as he wheeled his Keith Kunz Motorsports/Abreu Vineyards entry to a third place finish during his heat, followed by a second place run in an A-qualifier to line him up 13th in the feature.

Starting in the middle of the pack, Abreu navigated the tight confines of the Tulsa QuickTrip Center as he worked his way up to a seventh place finish, putting him in contention for Saturday’s finale.

Saturday saw Abreu line up in the fourth row of a B-main, with the top six finishers transferring to the feature event.

When the race got underway, Abreu quickly began working his Keith Kunz prepared mount through the field and went on to win the semi, and transferred to his first Chili Bowl feature in just his second attempt.

Abreu’s finish put him in the seventh row of the 55-lap feature. As the race got underway, it was apparent that Rico’s car wasn’t to his liking as he fought his tight car.

As he searched around the Tulsa Raceway, Abreu fell back to the 21st spot, as the checkered flag flew with for Kevin Swindell, Sammy Swindell, and his Keith Kunz Motorsports teammate, Kyle Larson.

“I really have to thank Keith Kunz and all of his guys for giving me the chance to run this event,” said Rico. “We were good all week long, and in the feature we just made a couple wrong adjustments and made it a little tough tonight.”

ON TAP: Rico and his Abreu Vineyards/Kaeding Performance team will now finalize the rest of their 2012 schedule.
