Knoxville, TN (Feb 26, 2022)- After a long couple of years of uncertainty and canceled events it has been an extraordinarily busy start to 2022 for the MRP team, with staff attending events such as the Tulsa Shootout & Chili Bowl, the WRG events in Volusia, Daytona RPM, the Wild West Shootout, and more.

The newest event on our schedule is the Outside Groove Racing Show Presented by USMA, from J.A. Ackley and the team at Outside Groove. Based here in Knoxville, TN, Outside Groove produces content that oval-track racing enthusiasts – both on dirt and pavement – fervently enjoy.

Speaking with J.A. as we were setting up the show he commented on how excited he is to see the cars on display cover the locally popular Late Model market but also include Drag Racing, Modified, Rally, Road Racing, Drift, and Nostalgia cars, and we can't disagree.

As attendees of hundreds of events over the years, the variety at this inaugural show is impressive. We were especially taken with the vintage 1934 Chevrolet, built on a 1955 frame and housing an era-correct 265ci GM V8, in the booth recalling the old Atomic Speedway in Tennessee and honoring its legacy.

With very little in the way of safety equipment and a wire mesh floor that allows the driver to literally see the ground beneath their feet, it's a testament to both how far safety and structural changes to today's cars have come, and to how absolutely crazy drivers of that era must have been. One can imagine the dust, dirt, and fluids flying around the cockpit of the car as a driver bounced around in a seat and harness that did not keep one nearly as well-cocooned as modern technology provides.

We hope you enjoy the cars as much as we have, and if you're in Knoxville today, there's still time to come see the show for yourself. Open from 9am-5pm at the Jacob Building on E Magnolia Ave and at only $10 admission (Military, First Responder, and Student discounts available), you don't want to miss it.
