Dewease Picks up First Win of Season

PETERSEN MEDIA: Since returning from a serious injury at the end of the 2011 season, Lance Dewease has showed no signs of rust as the driver of the Viper Risk Management Group/Wings Unlimited/Hank’s Performance Products has returned strong in 2012, and picked up his first win of the season on Saturday night at the Port Royal Speedway.

Two weeks ago during his first action of the season, Dewease put together a solid fifth place run at the ultra competitive Williams Grove Speedway.

In his second weekend of action one week ago, Dewease seemed to be even more comfortable in his return as he posted a second place finish at ‘The Grove’ before being rained out Saturday night before the feature at Port Royal where he was slated to start on the front row.

“It was awesome getting back in the seat, but I was still hungry to get back in victory lane,” explained Dewease.

Fast - forward to this past weekend, and Dewease put together a strong weekend running three feature events in two nights.

Friday night, the reigning Williams Grove track champion didn’t have the night he wanted at the high-speed half - mile.

A 13th place finish in the feature event, had the Fayetteville, PA driver even more hungry for what would be a double header at Port Royal on Saturday night.

During the make up feature, Dewease found his machine on the pole, with a stout field of drivers surrounding him.

Gunning into the lead early, Dewease felt heavy pressure from Greg Hodnett and Fred Rahmer.

Hodnett hounded Dewease, and grabbed the lead on the 14th lap, before the caution flew on the 15th lap, putting the trio nose to tail.

On the ensuing restart, Dewease fell to third as Rahmer got under him, and he went on to hold the third spot at the stripe.

Dewease would kick the Saturday night regularly scheduled program off by winning his heat race, and lining up for the 25-lap feature event in the second row.

With the green flag in the air, it was Rahmer grabbing the point, but a stout Dewease was all over his nerf bar.
The duo thrilled the crowd for the duration of the 25-lap feature, and as the white flag flew, the fans rose to their feet in anticipation for a dramatic finish.

Coming out of the fourth turn, Dewease got his nose under Rahmer, and raced the veteran side by side to the checkered flag, and beat him to the stripe, grabbing his first win of 2012.

“What a race, and what a night,” said a jubilant Dewease. “We were good all night and in both features, and to come away with a first and a third, I couldn’t be more satisfied.”

Dewease would like to thank Viper Risk Management Group, Wings Unlimited,?Hank’s Performance Products, Schaeffer Racing Oils,?Penske Racing Shock,s?FK Rodends,?Keizer Aluminum Wheels,?DMI Racing Components,?Astro Titanium,?Morrison Racing Engines,?Tom Shockey Collision, Kirkey Seats, FW Graphics,?WRT Web Designs,?WRT SpeedWerx, and Schoenfeld Headers for their continued support.
