Malvern, Iowa’s Justin Zeitner kept himself up front through some early cautions and found himself taking the checkered flag in the first Tri-State Dirt Late Models event at Park Jefferson International Speedway Saturday, April 23.

Zeitner had to hold an impressive charge from Nebraska native Josh Leonard who weaved his way through the 18-driver field of the H&H Mobile Home A feature. Leonard was set to make a move on the winner but ran out of time and track.

A beautiful early spring evening brought a great crowd to wrap up a festive opening week. Rusty Montagne in the T1 car claimed an emotional victory over Brayden Ahlers for the IMCA SportMods decision. Montagne used a clever down-low pass late to move past Ahlers. Miciah Hidlebaugh, a gridiron star for Grand View University when’s he not on the track, was the IMCA J&J Fitting Stock Cars victor. Cody Thompson took an early advantage and didn’t look back en route to the IMCA Modified triumph, while Shane DeMey and Bob Moore battled to the wire for runner-up honors, with DeMey hanging on. Local favorite Kaylb Brunssen of LeMars, Iowa, claimed the Q and Feather Again IMCA Hobby Stocks season-opening A feature. Despite ending fourth, Joel Magee traded paint with Brunssen for a good share of the race up front. Cody Gronewold, placing second, and David Miller, winding up third, also kept themselves in the battle for first to the end.

Week two of the 2022 PJIS schedule features the annual Iron Cup sponsored by J&J Fitting. Tickets for the April 29 test and tune event and the April 30 show can be purchased through the Park Jefferson International Speedway website at parkjeff.com. Fans can also find their favorite PJIS merchandise to be outfitted throughout 2022 at the track website.
