Inside Line Promotions – PORT ROYAL, Pa. (April 26, 2022) – A tough ending to the night last Saturday hasn’t derailed Joey Amantea’s excitement for the 2022 season, which has started on a high note.

Amantea entered the Rapid Tire USAC East Coast Sprint Cars Series event at Port Royal Speedway with a top-10 outing during each of his first four races of the season and Saturday looked just as promising.

“We were really fast in the heat race,” he said. “We went from fourth to second and I felt like we were tracking down (Briggs) Danner. We cut his lead from a straightaway to a quarter straightway. We were set up a little differently, but we were fast. Come feature-time we were really excited, but that didn’t end well.”

Amantea lined up on the inside of the fourth row for the main event, but he was involved in a multiple-car incident during the opening laps. The team was unable to return to action and Amantea was credited with a 15th-place result.

“Looking back at the replay a guy in front of me set his corner and I set my corner,” he said. “He slowed really quickly and I had too much momentum and it caused a wreck. It was just a racing deal. We had a super fast car and it sucks that it happened. We showed a lot of speed so there is positive to take out of the night.”

Amantea remains fourth in the USAC East Coast Sprint Cars Series championship standings heading into a doubleheader with the series this weekend. It begins on Friday at Delaware International Speedway in Delmar, Del., before Bridgeport Motorsports Park in Swedesboro, N.J., hosts an event on Saturday.

“At Delaware we’ve struggled a little bit, but I feel a lot more confident going back,” he said. “And we’re looking for a podium at Bridgeport. I know we have the speed to do it. It’s been a good track for us.”
