Third Time's The Charm for VRA Midgets

Ventura Raceway returns to action this Saturday April 21, at our Ventura County Fairgrounds facility with a full program of exciting racing action featuring VRA Midgets, VRA Senior Sprints, IMCA Modifieds, VRA Senior and Pro Dwarf cars, VRA Go-Karts and our new VRA Quad series. Rain has proven to be very troublesome so far in 2012 but this weekend the weather looks to be great for resumption of the racing that has made Ventura Raceway famous.

VRA Midgets are making their third attempt to open their season after a series of rainouts have kept them from racing. Returning drivers will be racing to see who will start the year off on top of the points race in the VRA Midget Series standings. We will also be using a new point system that allows drivers who get a poor pill draw a better chance to move into the main event or receive a higher semi main starting position. This change has been requested by drivers and crews for some time. We hope to see most of our top drivers from 2011 back in 2012 to compete for the season championship that was won by Cory Kruseman in 2011. The class will compete in a series of 8 lap heats, semi mains as needed and a 30 lap feature.

VRA Senior Sprints are on the card Saturday with their own hotly contested form of racing that sees past champion Bruce Douglass out front in the points race over Clif Warren and his teammate Victor Davis. Douglass and Davis have won the first two races in this series in 2012. These over 45 year old racers race in the same 360 sprint cars that the regular VRA 360 competitors race. They always put on a night of great racing action.

VRA Dwarf Cars will be racing in two classes, Seniors and Pros. These downsized cars always put on a great show for the fans in attendance. Last year's champions, George Calvo in Seniors and Ray Estrada in Pros are back to battle their peers to try to repeat as champions in 2012. On opening night Mach 3, Mike Lewis took the Senior Division win while Kevin Calvo took the win in the Pro Division. Saturday night they will be going for two in a row.

IMCA Modifieds return to action with point leader Gary Curtis leading them into competition. After two races so far Curtis leads Austin Rodarte by 2 points, 73 to 71, Aaron Rodarte is third at 68 Points and then we have a three way tie for fourth between Ryan Lauer, Wayne Heurung and Brad Prows with 66 points. All these drivers will be out to make their moves in the season long point battle.

VRA Go-Karts return after their first race in March. Cody Nigh took the win in that action. Saturday night he will be back to go for two in a row against the VRA Go-Kart drivers competing on a special infield course.

Our new VRA Quad racing series debuts Saturday with quad racers racing in two classes, the Open Division for all out racing quads and the Sportsman Division for stock quads. With many racers expected to take up the new series challenge, racing will be fast and furious as they race around Ventura Raceways oval track.

Admission prices for this event are: $14.00 for Adults, $11.00 for Seniors, Military and Juniors with kids 12 and under free with adult admission. Pit gates will open at 12 noon with warm-ups getting under way at 3:30 and racing at 5:30. For more information, please call Ventura Raceway at (805) 985-5433 x115.
