Inside Line Promotions – MILTON, Fla. (May 17, 2022) – Jordon Mallett garnered his first podium finish of the season last Saturday during a USCS Series event at Southern Raceway.
Rain captured the opening night on Friday before Mallett scored a season-best result on Saturday.
“Friday got rained out unfortunately,” he said. “Part of the draw for going down there was it being a two-day show. It became a monsoon after hot laps so it was a bummer not to get that in.”
Mallett was on a mission once racing began on Saturday, charging from sixth to win a heat race.
“We had a real good heat race,” he said. “I felt the car was pretty good and I felt I could make it a little better. We tried a couple of things in the dash and it was so-so, but we got it where I wanted in the feature.”
Mallett advanced from fourth to third place in the dash before he picked up another position in the main event to end second.
“We got bottled up on the start and I was in a bad spot,” he said. “It took a few laps to get settled into third place where I could go to work on the top two. Everybody in the top three was fast. We separated ourselves from the pack. My car came in a little bit too late. It really came to life around Lap 22. We ran the leader and second-place driver down. We got into some traffic and our car came alive. We passed the second-place car I think on Lap 28 or Lap 29 and then ran the leader down, but just didn’t have an opportunity to capitalize on it. Sometimes you wish races were shorter and sometimes you wish they were longer. I wish we had another lap or two and I felt we could have won.”
Mallett’s second-place showing continued his string of improving his feature finish during each race this season.
He returns to competition with the ASCS Mid-South Region this Saturday at I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Ark.
