Bud Scores Pair of Seconds

PETERSEN MEDIA- Making an appearance in a winged sprint car Friday night, and a non-winged sprint car on Saturday night, Bud Kaeding posted back to back second place finishes, including running second to his father, Brent on Friday.

“Second is never fun, but it was pretty cool seeing my old man get the win Friday night,” said Bud.

Driving the Werbach Motorsports No.20 machine, Kaeding started the race back in the sixth position.

With the track slicked off completely, Kaeding put his entry on the top of the track, and raced his way up to the fourth spot by the sixth marker.

Chasing Shane Golobic and Brad Furr as the trio set their sites on race leader, Brent Kaeding, Bud was able to follow Golobic past Furr to take over the third spot on a lap 11 restart.

Following a lap 16 restart, Kaeding and Golobic put on quite the duel for the second spot while BK got away, and Bud finally grabbed the second spot for good on the 24th lap, and chased his father across the finish line.

“It was just awesome to see him so happy in victory lane, and I was glad I could join him on the podium,” said Bud referring to his father grabbing his first victory since late in 2010.

Saturday night saw Kaeding meet up with the USAC West Coast 360 series as they invaded the Santa Maria Speedway.

Back aboard the BZE No. 29, Kaeding kicked his night off his night by timing in fifth fastest against the field of 26.

Scoring a third place finish in his heat, Kaeding would line up for the 30-lap feature in the third spot.

Grabbing second on the initial start, Kaeding hounded early race leader, Jayce Vander Weerd.

As Vander Weerd kept Kaeding at bay, he had his hands full with current point leader, Ryan Bernal.

Late in the race, Vander Weerd had issues, and Kaeding inherited the second spot behind Bernal.

Over the final three laps, Kaeding challenged Bernal, but fell just short as he settled for the second spot.

With the finish, Kaeding sits second in series standings as he is 18 points behind Bernal.

“It was a tough track tonight, and I’m happy to get out of here with a finish, and just glad it is a top-two,” explained Bud. “I’m looking forward to two races at Tulare next weekend because we have been pretty tough there in the past.”

Kaeding would like to thank Kaeding Performance, Sprint Car Innovations, Alviso Rock, BZE, Factory Kahne Shocks, Racing Optics, K&N Filters, Yak Graphics, ButlerBuilt, and Brown and Miller for their continued support.

ON TAP: Kaeding is now slated for a pair of races coming up this weekend, as he will be in action for a pair of USAC West Coast 360 events at the Thunderbowl in Tulare, CA.
