Inside Line Promotions – KNOXVILLE, Iowa (Aug. 15, 2022) – Oh so close turned out to be the theme of the 61st annual NOS Energy Drink Knoxville Nationals presented by Casey’s for Sides Motorsports.

Tim Kaeding highlighted the week at Knoxville Raceway by posting an 11th-place finish – tied for the team’s best outing of the season – on Thursday during his preliminary night. He then maneuvered from 10th to sixth in the B Main on Saturday to miss transferring into the A Main by only two positions.

“On Thursday he was coming on good,” Sides Motorsports Owner Jason Sides said. “He got to seventh and ran eighth for a while. There was a caution and after that he backed up a few spots. He had to run second to get locked into the feature on Saturday. It’s tough these days, especially with how narrow the tracks have been. It’s tough to pass. It was a good night overall.

“Then on Saturday in the B Main he got going, but he just needed a caution at the right time. He passed a couple of cars late and we came up just short of making the main event.”

Teammate Robbie Price qualified 14th quickest out of more than 50 drivers on Wednesday and he advanced from sixth to fifth place in a heat race to finish one spot out of locking into the main event. However, 17 of the top 20 qualifiers failed to lock in during the heat races so it buried Price in the B Main.

“Robbie was one out of locking in through the heat race and was oh so close,” Sides said. “It was tough in that B Main after nobody made it. They lined up the B Main by qualifying times and only two made it out of the heats. Man, that’s just tough. We kept trying to get it better. On the Friday night he qualified decent, but was one out of the heat race inversion. He just needs more laps and more Nationals. Overall, he did pretty damn good.”

Price placed 14th in the B Main on Wednesday and 16th in the consolation race on Friday. He capped the event by advancing from 12th to eighth in the D Main on Saturday.

Next up for Price and Sides is the 44th annual AGCO Jackson Nationals this Thursday through Saturday at Jackson Motorplex in Jackson, Minn.

“That’s a track similar to Knoxville the way it races and with the dirt,” Sides said. “I’d like to see him get a couple of top 10s. He’s proved he can qualify. If you get qualified without being inverted and can start toward the front you can run with those guys.”
