Sheffield is an 18-year-old who has battled Gastrointestinal Dysmotility Pseudo-obstruction throughout his life. Medical cannabis sparked a huge change in his life, allowing Sheffield to eat regularly and live functionally despite the uncurable disease.
The micro sprint racer also thrived on the track as he became the first known medical cannabis pediatric patient to capture a feature victory in 2021. While racing is a passion, Sheffield’s focus off the track has been expanding safe access for legal medical cannabis patients.
The next step will include Ashlar Government Relations, which is a full-service Maryland lobbying firm that helps businesses, non-profits and individuals navigate the lawmaking process.
Sheffield met Therese McGucken Hessler, the Chief Executive Officer and President of Ashlar Government Relations, through his advocacy work. The company will represent Sheffield during the 2023 Maryland legislative session in hopes to pass a law that would allow medical cannabis patients safe access within medical facilities, which is currently not allowed.
