PETERSEN MEDIA: Just three laps separated Lance Dewease and his sixth win of the 2012 season but a flat left rear on lap 22 at Port Royal dropped the veteran driver back to the 17th spot when the dust settled, and on Friday night he scored an eighth place finish at Williams Grove.
Lining up in the 13th spot for the 25-lap feature on Friday night, Deweae slowly worked the low side of the speedway aboard his Viper Risk Management Group/Wings Unlimited/Hank’s Performance Parts No.30c and slowly worked inside the top-ten.
Once inside the top-ten, Dewease was able to work past Don Kreitz, Jr as he overtook the ninth spot, and began pressuring Rick Lafferty for the eighth spot.
Dewease would finally get past Lafferty and took the eighth spot as the checkered flag waved on the event.
Saturday night, Dewease and his team was in action at the Port Royal Speedway, as they looked to end their winless streak.
Starting on the front row with the ageless Keith Kauffman, Dewease got a great jump as the green flag waved as Kauffman stayed behind him and remained within striking distance.
Withstanding a pair of caution flags, Dewease remained the class of the field as a late race caution put Greg Hodnett and Fred Rahmer, but the duo didn’t have anything for the leader.
While he held off his challengers, Dewease lost a left rear tire as he crossed the start finish line on the 22nd lap, dashing his hopes for his third Port win of the year and sixth overall.
“We were awesome at Port Royal, and I just hate to lose a race like that,” said Deweaes. “My guys have worked their tails off the last month, and I would like nothing more than getting them back to victory lane.”
