Prelude to Gold Cup/ Knoxville Recap/ 2005 Pombo-Sargent Classic

With the “Prelude to Gold Cup” on deck for the King of the West Sprints this Saturday, the “KWS Tonight” gang will be on the air Thursday night to get everyone geared up for what is expected to be an exciting evening of competition at the Chico bullring.

To view the show log onto http://www.kwssprints.com starting at 7pm pst on Thursday. It will then replay on the homepage to watch at your leisurely pleasure over the next week.

The event this weekend at Silver Dollar Speedway will mark the 16th round of the season for the Cancen Oil King of the West Sprint Car Series presented by Goodyear and the third appearance at the Chico based quarter-mile in 2012.

It’s also the first “Prelude to Gold Cup” and gives KWS drivers a chance to tune up for the big show in a few weeks. Reigning KWS champ Tim Kaeding and “Yung Money” Kyle Larson will be making their return to California this weekend to add some definite excitement to the program.

Going into Saturday hometown driver Jonathan Allard has a large lead in the driver standings, as he looks to wrap up his third career state 410 title with just two events remaining in the season. Fresno’s Craig Stidham is coming off his big win in the most recent KWS event and will be looking for back-to-back victories on Saturday.

The always colorful Andy Gregg, Tim Kaeding & Jonathan Allard will be part of our pre-race autograph session on Saturday. The trio will be by the front gate at 5pm when the gates open at Silver Dollar Speedway so be sure to get there early to say hi & pick up an autograph.

We’ll also take a look back at rounds seven and eight of the KWS season, which took place over Memorial Day weekend at the Calistoga Speedway. The annual “Salute to Walt Ross” & “Tribute to Gary Patterson” featured some great racing on the historic half-mile, with wins scored by Tim Kaeding & Rico Abreu.

We’ll take a look back at the final night of the 2005 “Pombo/Sargent Classic” at Kings Speedway in our “Kaeding Performance Flashback” this week. Veteran driver Ronnie Day charged to victory at the event while driving the Elite Racing No. 1 sprinter.

In addition to all of that we will put a wrap on the Knoxville Nationals, where former California state 410 champions Jonathan Allard, T. Kaeding and Kyle Larson all made the A-main on Saturday at the $150,000-to-win event.

Remember to get you tickets ordered for the upcoming KWS championship banquet weekend on November 9, 10 & 11 at the Jackson Rancheria Casino Resort.
