Steve Caunt Racing On The Road In Rural Nsw Over Easter

The Steve Caunt Racing team ventured out & about in country New South Wales over Easter weekend visiting tracks such as Nowra Speedway in Nowra & Sapphire Speedway in Bega for the 2012 NSW Easter trail.

SCR took two cars on the road with them this Easter weekend, as usual Steve Caunt in his famed MJ Rowles #9 & as well he had a team mate driving the SCR #17 Andy Hibbert who usually drives the Vic #17 Torquay Newsagency Wingless Sprintcar.

First on the trip was a Saturday night show at Nowra Speedway, This is a favorite for SCR as this can be considered Steve’s home race track, Steve first heat for the night was out of P4 and with a good start he rallied to a good strong second place finish. Heat 2 had the #9 MJ Rowles & Sons KPC starting from P6 and again Steve was on the ball for another strong result finishing in 3rd place.

The pole shuffle was next out onto the Nowra Speedway, due to Steve’s heat race results this had him as the 3rd highest qualifier, so the #9 would be 3rd last onto the race track for the all important pole shuffle, the pace was frantic as one false start was recorded against Steve’s name, on the second go he again was deemed to have jumped the start & was sent infield, so the best position he could have started in the main event was from outside second row.

The 30 lap main event was next out on the race track & Steve felt good about the job ahead of him starting from 4th on the grid, the race start was recalled & due to this Steve moved up a place & would now start on the front row, he won the race into turn 1 to take the lead & led the feature event for 28 & a half laps till he was passed by a car that used more of the infield than the race track to get by so consequently Steve finished in 2nd place.

Onto Sapphire Speedway in Bega for a lovely Sunday afternoon race meeting, back to grass roots racing, this is how speedway started for most drivers on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon at their local racetrack, Steve’s heat race results were as follows:

heat Race 1 started P4, finished P1,
heat race 2 started P6, finished p2
heat race 3 started P3, finished p1

these results gave Steve a P3 startt for the main event which was led for 10 laps by his team mate for the weekend Andy Hibbert, the #17 car was balked by slower traffic & that was all the invitation Steve needed to get by to take the feature event win.

The Steve Caunt Racing team would like to extend a huge thanks to Nowra Speedway & Sapphire Speedway for their hospitality over the Easter weekend as well as the people & fans who celebrated & supported SCR.

Steve Caunt Racing will be back out next week at Sydney Speedway in Granville New South Wales on Saturday Night for another round of the Tyrepower Sydney Speedway track championship.
