Kraig Kinser Concludes World of Outlaws Second Canadian Swing of 2012

Bloomington, Ind.—August 26, 2012— A record number of events “North of the Border” in Canada dotted the World of Outlaws schedule this year, with the final pair of those six contests taking to the track this past weekend at Castrol Raceway in the Sixth Annual Oil City Cup. Kraig Kinser was in action in Edmonton, marking the fifth straight year he has raced at the three-eighths-mile, located in the province of Alberta.

Kinser finished 11th in the finale of the Oil City Cup on Saturday, Aug. 25, aboard the Hendrickcars.com Maxim. He opened the two-night event on Friday, Aug. 24, with a 12th-place showing.

On Saturday night, Kinser lined up 10th for the 35-lap main event and found himself in that same spot for the first 10 circuits, which were slowed by a caution on the initial start, leading to a complete restart, followed by a red flag on lap-10. The 2004 Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year Award winner fell to 11th on the ensuing restart, and worked his way back into the Top-10 on the 15th go-around. He was running in that position with less than five laps remaining when Travis Rilat slipped by to take the 10th spot. Kinser would end up 11th when the checkered flag flew.

The third-generation driver was eighth-fastest in time trials on Saturday night. He started on the front row of the second 10-lap heat race and rocketed to the lead at the drop of the green, winning that event to earn a spot in the dash. Kinser started eighth in the dash and finished 10th, which put him on the outside of the fifth row for the start of the A-Feature.

Kinser finished 12th in the 30-lap main event during the opener of the Oil City Cup on Friday, Aug. 24. He ran among the Top-10 for the first half of the race, and was battling for the 10th spot on lap-17 when contact with another car led to a brush with the inside wall. Kinser restarted 13th and was able to gain one more position in the late going to come home 12th.

The native of Bloomington, Ind., opened the night at the 11th-fastest driver in time trials. He finished third in the second 10-lap heat race, which put him in the dash. In the dash Kinser started 10th and finished seventh, lining him up on the inside of the fourth row for the main event.

“It wasn’t quite the weekend we were hoping for,” said Kinser. “We have a couple of days now to head down to Washington and regroup for Grays Harbor. I’ve always run well there, as well as at Skagit, so I’m really looking forward to getting back in the Hendrickcars.com car this week. We’ll just put the last couple of races behind us and move forward and keep working hard.”

Kinser, who is currently sixth in the World of Outlaws championship standings, returns to action on Wednesday, Aug. 29, at Grays Harbor Raceway in Elma, Wash., followed by a visit to Skagit Speedway in Alger, Wash., Aug. 31–Sept. 1, and then the World of Outlaws inaugural visit to Willamette Speedway in Lebanon, Ore., Sept. 3. The Outlaw California Speedweek awaits next week in the Golden State.
