Inside Line Promotions – WINCHESTER, Va. (May 30, 2023) – Joey Amantea earned his best Rapid Tire USAC East Coast Sprint Cars result of the season last Saturday at Winchester Speedway.

Amantea’s second-place showing was also a career-best run at the dirt oval.

He advanced from fourth to second place during a heat race to kick off the competition, which garnered a spot into the feature redraw. Amantea pulled the No. 4 to line up on the outside of the second row for the A Main.

“It was impossible to pass people in the heat race and the feature,” he said. “Come feature-time I fell to fifth on the start. I got back to fourth and ran there for a quarter of the race. I ended up getting to third. I was stuck behind second place for most of the race. It was one lane and if you got out of that lane you were going to the back. We cooked our tires. Eventually we got to second on a restart. We tracked down the leader, but we didn’t have enough time or tire left to get the job done. I’m very happy we salvaged a second.”

The podium was Amantea’s third top five of the season with the series and moved him up to fourth in the championship standings – only four points behind third place.

Next up for the team is a USAC East Coast Sprint Cars show this Friday at Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, Pa. Amantea was unable to compete at the famed half-mile track in April because of mechanical woes early in the night.

“We were really fast at this race last year before getting collected in a wreck that sent me out of the park,” he said. “Every time we’ve been there we’ve been fast. Luck hasn’t gone our way, but I can’t complain because every time we hit the track we’ve got speed. I haven’t had any laps at Williams Grove this year due to a parts failure so this will be my first opportunity. Hopefully we put this thing in Victory Lane. We’ve had a third and a second this year so we need to keep that going to get our first victory.”
