Shullick Scores 20th Career Novelis Supermodified Feature Win in Dominant Fashion

OSWEGO, NY (June 24, 2023) - Domination. North Ridgeville Ohio’s Dave Shullick Jr. started in 11th and put on a clinic to win Saturday night’s 50-lap Novelis Supermodified feature at Oswego Speedway for the 20th victory of his career and second of the 2023 season at the Steel Palace.

Shullick showed patience throughout his march to the front, but was still the race leader before the halfway mark on lap 22, getting by Brandon Bellinger and then immediately checking out in front.

“All credit to the guys, they have worked so hard over the offseason and this car just has tremendous traction,” mentioned Shullick in victory lane. “I look outside, let it drift up, and then nail it and come underneath them, so it works and hats off to the team for all of the hard work. It makes my job a lot easier. Thank you to TJ Toyota, Riverwalk Oswego, Holiday Inn Express, Cam’s Pizzeria, and everyone that helps pitch in and do what we do.”

When the front row of Lou LeVea Sr. and Tim Snyder took the green, the first lap looked just like the pace lap as the 66 and 0 battled side by side for the race leader with Snyder finally sliding in front of LeVea Sr.

LeVea Sr. kept pace with Snyder for several laps, but it wasn’t long before the handling started to go away. Third starting Bellinger and fifth starting Tyler Thompson slipped underneath to take over second and third as LeVea fell to fourth on lap 7.

While Snyder had built a solid lead, Bellinger and Thompson began to gain ground around lap 10 - with Bellinger able to muster a run underneath the Zero and into the lead on the sixteenth circuit.

Seemingly out of nowhere, two laps later, Shullick; who had already gotten by Ben Seitz, Dan Connors Jr, Joe Gosek, Jeff Abold, Alison Sload, Jack Patrick, and LeVea Sr, was all over the Thompson No. 98 for third as Tyler had a tough time getting by Snyder.

With the second, third and fourth place cars nose to tail, this allowed Bellinger to build a bit of a gap over the field, but Thompson got loose looking to the outside of Snyder on lap 18 and that was all Shullick needed to shoot underneath.

Next in line was Snyder and Shullick made his move to get by the Zero with 22 complete, but no sooner did a fine run for Tim go by the wayside as he lost the handle in between turns three and four to bring out the caution.

On the restart, Shullick shot out of a cannon to get under Bellinger down the front stretch and that was all she wrote.

Shullick sailed off into the sunset from there, picking up the victory by a very healthy five-second margin while Bellinger held on for second and Thompson third as Abold and Connors completed the top five.

Filling in the top ten spots were Sload, Gosek, Dave Danzer, Seitz, and Patrick.
