KNOXVILLE, IOWA (November 5, 2012) - The final “Sprint Car 101” Third Thursday Series program of 2012 will take place on Thursday, November 15, with “An Evening with Robert Lawton.” The free and open-to-the-public program will be held on the National Sprint Car Museum’s second floor and it will begin at 7 p.m.
Since the early 1980’s, Robert Lawton has promoted the Boone Speedway in Iowa, which is home to the ultra-successful International Motor Contest Association (IMCA) Super Nationals each and every September. According to museum curator Tom Schmeh, “Today’s fans may not even realize that ‘Lawty’ was the 1992 Racing Promotion Monthly (RPM) Auto Racing Promoter of the Year and he was a founding board member of our non-profit National Sprint Car Hall of Fame & Museum Foundation in 1988. Starting in 1978 and coinciding with his time as an official with the National Speedways Contest Association (NSCA), Bob Lawton was one of sprint car racing’s major players as a regular and loyal promoter of the late Ted Johnson’s World of Outlaws (WoO) sprint car series events. It will be fun to learn about Bob Lawton’s life around the stars and cars of dirt late model, sprint car and modified stock car racing.”
