MUSEUM TO HOST “SPRINT CAR 101: AN EVENING WITH MIKE THOMAS & BOBBY THOMPSON” ON THURSDAY, JANUARY 17, AT 7 P.M.

KNOXVILLE, IOWA (January 7, 2013) - The National Sprint Car Museum’s “Sprint Car 101” Third Thursday Series resumes on Thursday, January 17, with “An Evening with Mike Thomas & Bobby Thompson” The free and open-to-the-public program will be held on the museum’s second floor and it will begin at 7 p.m.

According to museum curator Tom Schmeh, “I don’t think people realize what diverse careers these two central Iowa drivers have had. For example, in 1982, Mike Thomas finished seventeenth in World of Outlaws (WoO) season points. Finishing ‘top twenty’ in WoO final points is a heck of an accomplishment for any sprint car driver in any year. He also finished nineteenth in Knoxville Raceway track points and ran the United States Auto Club (USAC) feature at Knoxville that year. ‘Booby’ Thompson came from a racing family and is probably equally recognized as both a sprint car driver and a chassis builder with American Challenge in Des Moines. This should be an entertaining and educational night about the lives and careers of two sprint car racing veterans.”
