Inside Line Promotions – HARLAN, Iowa (Sept. 13, 2023) – Kaleb Johnson pocketed a pair of top 10s last weekend during the Cyclone Classic.

Johnson climbed behind the wheel of the TKS Motorsports No. 2ks on Friday and Saturday at Shelby County Speedway, where he made his debut.

“At a track I’d never been to and there’s not much like it around here, the experience was really good,” he said. “I learned a lot and we were able to roll the car into the trailer with a couple of top 10s. Thanks to the Renfro Family for the opportunity.”

The action began on Friday when Johnson qualified fifth quickest. He placed second in a heat race and lined up on the outside of the second row in the A Main.

“I feel like it went okay,” he said. “The first night we should have had a top five. It was just a weird deal. I couldn’t get a good restart and with 10 laps to go a few cars got by me and I about got taken out. We held on for ninth.”

Johnson timed in 11th quickest and finished fourth in a heat race on Saturday. He capped the event by advancing from 11th to ninth in the main event.

“I didn’t qualify very well,” he said. “I should have ripped the cushion both laps, but I went to the bottom the second lap. There wasn’t much passing in the heat race. In the feature the lane choice was around the top and it was a little tough to pass. Other than that it was good to get experience in something other than my own car and come away with two top 10s.”

Johnson plans to wrap up the 2023 season this Friday and Saturday at Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Mo., during the Jesse Hockett/Daniel McMillin Memorial with the ASCS National Tour.

“I’m excited about it,” he said. “We went down there last year and I feel we have some good notes to go off of. Last year we had no idea what to expect. Now that we’ve been there we have a decent notebook and hopefully we will be competitive from the start.”
