Hendricks Chases Win #2 Saturday Night

(March 6, 2013, Cliff Morgan, Ventura Raceway) OXNARD, CA - Ventura Raceway will continue its new 2013 season this Saturday night March 9, at 5:30 PM at its Ventura County Fairgrounds Facility. This weekend we will highlight six of our adult classes in exciting short track oval track racing. VRA 360 Sprints, IMCA Modifieds, VRA Sport Compacts, VRA Mod Lites, Sport Mods, VRA Quads and VRA Go Karts will all be in action on Ventura Raceways 1/5 mile oval.

VRA Sprints return to action after last weeks opening night that saw Tom Hendricks get his first ever VRA 360 Sprint Car Main Event win. Saturday night he goes for two in a row against all the top VRA competitors. His win also put him into the season point lead. Guy Woodward, Rick Hendrix, John Nock and many more will race a full program of 10 lap heats and a 30 lap feature. Semi main events will also be run if needed.

VRA Sport Mods make their Ventura Raceway debut Saturday. These IMCA style racers are a new class we are starting this year. It is a class designed to bring out some of the older style IMCA modifieds that are not competitive with the new higher performance models used today in IMCA competition today. The class is large in the Midwest and we hope it will catch on here.

IMCA Modifieds will also be on hand for their first race of the 2013 season. 2013 track champion Jack Parker leads the field into competition as he goes for another series championship These V8 powered open wheel stock cars will keep you on the edge of your seat as they battle on Ventura's tight 1/5 mile oval.

VRA Sport Compacts will also be on the schedule this weekend. These four cylinder racer cars are the entry level class for racers getting started in dirt track oval racing. Last years champion Zach Peterson is back to try to keep all the other Sport Compact competitors behind him in the 2013 season point race.

VRA Mod Lites will be here to open their 2013 season. This growing class races downsized east coast big block modified-styled cars. It has been a VRA division or two seasons and we are hoping it will row into a great VRA Class. 2012 season champion Mike Sweeney is not competing this season so the championship is open to drivers like Ricky Lewis, Dave Dotson and Kris Kornder.

VRA Go Karts will open their season Saturday night. All the top drivers in this division will be back in 2013 to try to see who will take the series championship at the end of the season in November. These racers will race on the large track as they did in the 2012 season. They put on a great show for the fans on the large track last season and Saturday's racing should be no exception to this.

The final class racing Saturday night is the VRA Quads. These racers race all out on very high powered racing quads around the Ventura Raceway 1/5 mile oval. David Knight is back to defend his title in the Quad Open division and Brian Hudnell took the Sportsman Division in 2012.

Admission prices for this event are: $15.00 for Adults, $11.00 for Seniors, Military and Juniors, kids 12 and under free with adult admission. Pit gates will open at 12 noon, front gates at 3:00PM, with warm-ups getting under way at 3:30 and racing at 5:30.
