What a Year Season 12/13

What a Year Season 12/13

From Steve Caunt

The season started in November 2012 with the Victorian swing, I really couldn't get going, like past seasons the speed and results have come but this season, time trials really never happened, transferring from a B main was a task.

We won at Nowra Speedway prior to Xmas however a podium was no where in sight again

Stepping out of the car mid World Series in January for 13 shows was not the smartest thing I have ever done, this was a tragedy when Western Australia hit, as I was back to where I started in November. All the other racers had moved up and were way better.

It was a situation where I just wanted the Series to finish.

After leaving home Xmas eve and not returning till the Completion of the finale round in Perth then driving back to Sydney I had had enough.

After all the years of Crew Members coming and Going, no one still had a truck licence.

A great friend in Perth told me, you cannot drive the truck, arrange the team and drive the race car, then wash it and conduct all the other jobs that are required.

The crew flew in and flew out of events, Whilst I moved the truck to the next event.

There were some Highlights of the Season for me personally and my family whom were really supportive.

The Western Australian Swing was great. To catch up with family and the Browns was a bonus. Jan and Robby Brown you are a Great Family and I so Appreciate you accepting MY visitors into your world.

World Series the Machine was great to be a part of, the Staff at Speedway Australia and Mediatec made it a fun time. Shane, you know who you are, Thanks for just being you. that's enough said.

Thanks to Chad and Richy and David (Mediatec) you three are definately uplifting people. The car piece shot at our workshops for Speed TV and The Big Screen was so amazing and great for our sponsors.

We had a change in sponsors prior to the classic which was disruptive. King Signwriter Andy Hibbert sorted it out with out fuss, no one really noticed.

The team, car and truck won Best Team for many reasons including the uniforms and team Presentation at the World Series Sprintcars Awards dinner, which was a major shock to me considering the other teams that were able to be considered. I failed in the Speech area as I was so shocked to be credited with that acolade. It took a week to work out exactly what it really meant. We also held on to 6th Position on the leader board, which out of 9 contracted drivers I was ok with that.

Thank you to to the World Series Board of Directors for believing in the SCR9 team and awarding us as a group for the way in which we went about the series.

I built some great relationships with some of the teams that felt we were worthy to mix with and I thank Pestkas, Dillons, Housy, Laceys, Bradfords and Pigdons all great people whom before this season we had never met. We now have a great network of Racer Friends in Tassy, WA and Adelaide.

Big Mike (Wade), I wont tell you again, I live in Albion Park not Albion Park Rail. The towns aren't even close !!!!

Next Season, the team with the 9 on the car will be way different. Nearly nothing will be the same as fans, Promoters and the likes know it now.

I want to thank the Sponsors that stayed on with us. I know that they have recieved great value from the exposure in all forms of the media that was gained.

Finally I want to thank the Staff at Fire Service Plus for keeping the organisation in shape whilst I was away.

The year now will finish locally with a few races around NSW left to do, My Son Kyle will have a race in the Sprintcar at Sydney, A bit of Waterskiing and lots of time to re build for next season.

Thank you to the Fans of our Face Book Page for the Support.
