USAC/CRA SPRINTS BACK AT THE PAS MAY 4; GARDNER SWEEPS YUMA 30-LAPPERS

The AMSOIL USAC/CRA Sprint Cars are idle this week and resume action May 4 at Perris (Calif.) Auto Speedway. When they do, former series champ Damion Gardner will try to protect the four-point lead he enjoys over teammate Nic Faas as a result of two victories last weekend.

Gardner, of Concord, Calif., tied A.J. Foyt, Dave Steele and Bryan Clauson as the winningest USAC drivers in Arizona history with his seventh and eighth wins in the Grand Canyon State this past weekend. He won both Friday and Saturday night at Cocopah Speedway in Yuma in his Scott Sales Company/CSI Shocks Spike/J & D.

Friday found Gardner leading Team Alexander to a 1-2 finish, beating Faas to the checkered flag. He led all 30 laps to beat Faas, defending series king Mike Spencer, Bud Kaeding and Charles Davis, Jr.

On Saturday Gardner caught Kaeding on lap seven and led the final 24 laps to beat Kaeding, Spencer, Faas and R.J. Johnson.

2013 AMSOIL USAC/CRA SPRINT CAR STANDINGS: 1-Damion Gardner-397, 2-Nic Faas-393, 3-Bud Kaeding-312, 4-Mike Spencer-294, 5-R.J. Johnson-266, 6-Cody Williams-242, 7-Austin Williams-224, 8-Brody Roa-226, 9-Bryan Clauson-210, 10-Charles Davis Jr.-207.
