New Faces Headline Sprint Car Title Fight

(April 30, 2013, Cliff Morgan, Ventura Raceway) OXNARD, CA - Ventura Raceway returns to action this Saturday evening May 4, at 5:30 with the best in short track racing at its Ventura County Fairgrounds facility. This weekend we will highlight five of our adult classes in exciting short track oval track racing. VRA 360 Sprints, IMCA Modifieds, VRA Focus, VRA Sport Mods, VRA Quads and our three kids classes will all be in action on Ventura Raceways 1/5 mile oval.

VRA Sprints return to action after a month long break. In the two races held so far in 2013, first time winners Tom Hendricks and Guy Woodward have shown that the race for the 2013 championship is wide open among the many fine VRA 360 sprint car competitors. Who will win Saturday, only time will tell as these high powered racers race around Ventura's 1/5 mile oval. Guy Woodward leads the season point race by 15 points over Tom Hendricks and 80 points over Rick Hendrix. The sprint cars will race a full program of 10 lap heats and a 30 lap feature. Semi main events will also be run if needed.

VRA Sport Mods make their debut this weekend. These IMCA style racers are a new class we are starting this year. It is a class designed to bring out some of the older style IMCA modifieds that are not competitive with the new higher performance models used today in IMCA competition today. the class is large in the Midwest and we hope it will catch on here.

IMCA Modifieds will also be on hand for their fifth race of the 2013 season. So far it has been all Joshua Vogt as he has taken all four previous races and leads the point race. Tonight he goes for a record five wins in a row against the rest of the IMCA competitors, including 2012 track champion Jack Parker, Brad Prows, Dennis Eckert, Steve Bulpitt and many others. These V8 powered open wheel stock cars will keep you on the edge of your seat as they battle on Ventura's tight 1/5 mile oval.

VRA Focus Midgets will be back Saturday night to continue their season. Point leader Brennan Rogers and 2012 series champion Wally Pankratz lead the field of racers into tonight's action. These spec Ford Focus powered midgets have been the starting point for many up and coming racers.

VRA Open Quads will be racing on the big oval again this weekend. Last race winner Danny Elderbaum leads the field into the event. Other racers scheduled to compete include 2012 series champ David Knight, Kyle Eurto and others. This class features full on racing quads that race around the Ventura at high speed. Also racing will be the Sportsman class for stock racing quads.

The final group racing this week is our Kid's division featuring mini dwarfs and junior midgets. In Mini Dwarf Pistons, Garrett Egan has two wins and Blake Hendricks has one so far in 2013. In Mini Dwarf Superchargers, J D Brown has two wins and Andrew Orlando has one win. So far in 2013 Nick Velasquez has three wins in three events in Junior Midget competition.
