Kerry Madsen – Sweet Victory at Eldora!

(Bill W) May 8, 2013 – After a trying early season with the World of Outlaws, the Keneric Racing #29 team celebrated Friday night with their first feature win at the Eldora Speedway near Rossburg, Ohio. Though engine woes slowed them Saturday, the win was a confidence builder as they move close to home with events at the Elko Speedway near New Market, Minnesota on Friday, and the Knoxville Raceway in Iowa on Saturday.

Qualifying was a key to Friday’s win. “We went out early and we were third quick,” says Kerry. “We had quick time for a while. We were able to finish fourth in the heat, but we didn’t really feel good about it. We made some adjustments before the Dash.”

Kerry started and finished sixth in the Dash. “Even though we finished where we started, we felt really good in the Dash,” he says. “We left the car alone for the feature race.”

The St. Mary’s, New South Wales native had the fastest car come main event time. “We dropped back to seventh, but eventually we drove by about everyone on the racetrack,” says Kerry. “We were up to second about lap fourteen on a restart, and I got by (Craig) Dollansky about two or three laps later.”

Once out front, he was unchallenged. “I just drove it hard,” says Kerry. “It was pretty straight forward from that point. The cushion was really aggressive. It was pretty quick around the top. Obviously, the track was racy. We were able to pass six cars, and others were able to pass.”

Saturday didn’t go as well. After registering the 19th quick time of the night, Kerry qualified for the feature through his heat, but was an early casualty. “We didn’t qualify well,” he says. “We were too free probably. Unfortunately, after making it through the heat, we had an engine issue.”

Still, getting the win on Friday is something to celebrate for Kerry and the team. “It was a pretty disappointing ending to the weekend, but it was good to have the success and get victory #1 for the season.”

The Keneric Racing #29 team is poised for racing Friday in Minnesota and Saturday at Knoxville. “I’m excited to have a ‘home game’ (Knoxville) this weekend,” says Kerry. “We’re excited to go to Elko. It’s a new place for us, but it’s only three or four hours north.”
