Starks Notches Two Top 10s to Kick Off ASCS Northwest Region Speedweek

Inside Line Promotions - ELMA, Wash. (June 30, 2013) - Trey Starks opened the ASCS Northwest Region Speedweek with a pair of top 10s last weekend at Grays Harbor Raceway.

Starks, who entered the weekend with a top-four finish in each of the two previous ASCS Northwest Region events this season, dropped from third to fourth in his heat race on Friday at the 3/8-mile oval.

"It was super slick," he said. "They got the jump on the outside (row). It was just nose to tail after that, kinda around the bottom. That didn't give us very many points. We were the last car to make it into the main."

Starks garnered the 16th-most points after the heat races to be the final driver to lock into the 30-lap feature, which he started on the outside of the eighth row.

"We found our groove around the top," he said. "We were able to pass some cars. It went green to checkered, so it was hard to get position on anybody. It ended up being a decent night."

Starks rallied to finish 10th and was tied for the most cars passed in the feature. It was his 10th top 10 of the season.

Speedweek continued on Saturday at Grays Harbor Raceway, where the heat race situation was similar to the night before.

"It was super slick again," he said. "The outside guy got me going into the opening corner. It was nose to tail after that."

Starks slid from the pole to finish second, which earned him enough points to advance to the redraw.

"Low and behold we drew the eight, again," he said with a slight laugh.

Starks drew the highest number to start the 30-lap main event on the outside of the fourth row.

"We ran green up until around the ninth lap and we were up to third," he said. "But the right front shock fell off around the fifth lap. I was unable to run the bottom, which was the preferred line, especially in (turns) one and two.

"After the restart the bottom got better and we slipped back to fourth and then in traffic on the last lap I was trying to get third back and we got passed."

Starks finished fifth to record his ninth top-five finish in 15 races this season.

"It was a good run for what we had in the car," he said. "We were fast in the main and going forward. That's one of the good things you can take away."

Starks will continue the ASCS Northwest Region Speedweek throughout Oregon this week beginning Monday at Southern Oregon Speedway in White City. On Tuesday, Coos Bay Speedway in Coos Bay hosts a race before a show on Wednesday at Willamette Speedway in Lebanon. Speedweek wraps up with a doubleheader at Cottage Grove Speedway in Cottage Grove on Friday and Saturday.
