Inside Line Promotions – ALBION, Neb. (July 9, 2013) – Another race yielded another top five for Jack Dover.
After his trip to Huset’s Speedway in Brandon, S.D., ended with a rainout following hot laps on Sunday, Dover competed on Monday at Boone County Fair at Albion Speedway with the Carpet Land Nebraska 360 Sprints.
Utilizing a passing points system, Dover charged from fifth to win his heat race and earn the most points heading into the feature redraw at the third-mile track.
“I took the lead with two laps to go,” he said. “Those guys were entering in the middle of the corner and I was keeping it tight to the bottom and there was a lot of moisture down there.”
However, Dover pulled the highest number – eight – to start on the outside of the fourth row for the feature, which was shortened from 25 laps to 20 because of the impending threat of rain.
“You could have thrown a blanket over first through sixth,” Dover said of the main event. “That’s how close we were. I lost my brakes halfway through. Then I used all my tear offs with five laps to go.”
Dover competed within the top five for most of the race, but he decided to be conservative in the closing laps.
“We got into lapped cars and the top six cars were bunched up,” he said. “People were banging wheels and I was just waiting for somebody to crash in front of me. I wasn’t really pressing the issue to go to the front. I don’t need to wreck my car over $1,000.”
Dover finished fifth, which was his 11th top five of the season.
He is scheduled to compete on Friday at U.S. 36 Raceway near Cameron, Mo., with the ASCS Warrior Region and on Saturday at Hutchinson Raceway Park in Hutchinson, Kan., with the NCRA for the 57th annual O’Reilly Auto Parts Hutchinson Grand Nationals.
