Inside Line Promotions – PEVELY, Mo. (April 14, 2025) – Kaleb Johnson made huge gains during his debut at I-55 Federated Auto Parts Raceway Park, which hosted more than 60 drivers last weekend during the Federated Auto Parts Spring Classic.
“The results weren’t great, but I had a blast,” he said. “That place is awesome. The racing, the speed, how banked the track is. You are constantly throwing sliders. I had a great time and learned a lot.”
The Team DGRD driver qualified 24th quickest in his group to open the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series doubleheader last Friday. He then advanced from fourth to third place in a non-qualifier race and from eighth to fifth place in the C Main.
“I don’t think we started out the night very well,” Johnson said. “We kept making gains every time we hit the track. We made some changes to where it was night and day difference in the C Main and then we saw another huge difference on Saturday.”
The team took a big step forward on Saturday during the event finale. Johnson qualified eighth quickest in his group before he placed sixth in a heat race – one spot out of locking into the main event. His night ended with a sixth-place result in the Last Chance Showdown, which was only two positions shy of transferring into the main event.
“The track was a little slower on Saturday and we picked up almost three tenths from where we were the night before,” he said. “We found a better balance and just need to carry that throughout the night. Toward the end (of the Last Chance Showdown) I didn’t put myself in the right position to transfer. I needed to move up in turns three and four. I watched (Danny) Dietrich go by me on the bottom and thought something was there. A lack of experience at that track definitely didn’t help, but we learned a lot all weekend.”
Next up is a World of Outlaws weekend at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa, this Friday and Saturday.
“I think it’s going to be tougher than last weekend, but for me it helps going to a place where I’m comfortable and have laps,” Johnson said. “I think just making the feature will be tough. Qualifying will be everything.”
