Antioch, CA...May 10...DJ Netto of Hanford won the 30 lap NARC Winged 410 Sprint Car Main Event Saturday night at Antioch Speedway. This was the Third Annual Contra Costa County Clash, and the 2019 series champion is off to a strong start as his second win of the season keeps him in the point lead.
San Jose's Bud Kaeding set the early pace ahead of Netto and Kaleb Montgomery of Templeton. The lead duo caught slower traffic by the 10th lap. Sean Becker of Oroville moved into third on the 11th circuit and quickly closed in on first two cars. A backstretch pass on the 14th lap gained Becker the lead from Kaeding. The yellow was out on Lap 15 for Montgomery on the back straightaway. Becker led Netto and Bud Kaeding on the restart.
Becker was starting to pull away, but a yellow flag waved on lap 19 for Gauge Garcia of Lemoore. On the restart lap, Netto made a low move in Turn 3 to take the lead from Becker. Going down the front straightaway there was contact and Becker stalled entering Turn 1. Dominic Gorden of Clovis got into Becker's stalled car and flipped. In Turn 2, Montgomery also flipped as the red flag waved.
After the track was cleared, Netto led Bud Kaeding and Tim Kaeding of San Jose on the restart. As Netto sped on the victory, a battle developed for second. Billy Aton of Benicia made a low pass in Turn 4 of the 24th lap to take third from Tim Kaeding and made an outside pass down the frontstretch a lap later for second. Netto won ahead of Aton, Bud Kaeding, Tim Kaeding and Jake Andreotti of Castro Valley.
Shane Golobic of Fremont won the 30 lap BCRA/WMR Midgets Main Event. This was the Second Annual Ken Graunstadt Memorial. Golobic survived a last lap challenge from reigning champion Caden Sarale of Stockton to score the victory.
Friday night Watsonville WMR Midgets winner Logan Mitchell of Santa Cruz and Golobic battled fiercely on the opening lap, but it was Golobic leading the way at the flagstand ahead of Mitchell. Sarale made an inside pass on the frontstretch on Lap 3 to settle into second. Over the next few laps, however, Golobic began to pull away from Sarale and put some slower cars between the two. A fierce battle developed between Mitchell, Jake Andreotti of Castro Valley and Dane Culver of Sacramento for third.
Andreotti was able to briefly get around Mitchell for third on the 18th lap, but Mitchell got by a lap later. Andreotti ended up spinning in Turn 4 for the second and final yellow flag on Lap 24. At that point, only six cars were on the lead lap, and that meant Andreotti restated in sixth as Golobic continued to lead Sarale and Mitchell.
Andreotti again made a move around Mitchell for third in Turn 4 on Lap 27, but Mitchell reclaimed the spot with a Turn 2 pass a lap later. The lead duo caught traffic on the back straightaway, but Golobic made the right moves and brought it home to victory ahead of Sarale, Mitchell, Andreotti and Dominic Gorden of Clovis.
Mike Cossey of Pineville, Oregon led the group of beautiful BCRA Vintage Midgets that did and exhibition race. He was followed by Mike Mosekian of Auburn, David Anstead of Merced, Jim DeJong of Pacifica and Steve Cossey of Rohnert Park.
Kim Solis of Antioch won the annual Mother's Day Mini Van race ahead of Allyson Shelton of Antioch.
Racing resumes next Saturday night as part of the annual Contra Costa County Fair. The IMCA sanctioned Modifieds, Sport Modifieds and Stock Cars will be back along with the Pacific Coast Hobby Stocks, Mini Stocks and a Figure 8.
