Binz Places Eighth After Opening-Lap Crash at 281 Speedway

Inside Line Promotions - STEPHENVILLE, Texas (July 22, 2013) - For the third straight week John Binz had a car capable of winning his first career mini sprint feature.

Unfortunately, his night ended on the hook as a wild crash on the opening lap during his first-ever race at 281 Speedway sidelined him early on Saturday.

"Our plan was to race at Kennedale on Friday, but that was rained out," he said. "I got help from some friends to travel to a couple of different tracks, but the Beaumont deal got rained out Friday morning."

That left Saturday's inaugural trip to 281 Speedway as the lone option to compete and Binz took advantage early. He charged from fourth to second in his heat race, which locked him into the feature redraw.

"It was right around the top," he said. "We got them on the start."

Binz pulled the No. 3 to start on the inside of the second row for the main event. After the first start was called back, Binz tried to capitalize when the polesitter got a slow start.

"I got to the inside of her and the next thing I know I was doing cartwheels down the straightaway," he said. "It was a little past the flag stand. I think I did three cartwheels down the straightaway. I landed on all four wheels. It didn't get the wing."

However, the contact on the opening lap damaged the front axle, radius rods, right rear shock, rear bumper and the fuel cell among other parts. He was credited with an eighth-place finish, which was his ninth top-10 result of the season.

"It could have been a whole lot worse," he said. "It sucks to have a car to win and for that to happen on the first lap. I didn't get a chance."

Binz is scheduled to return to Kennedale Speedway Park in Kennedale, Texas, on Friday for his first nonwing race since destroying a car several weeks ago.
