Port Royal, PA -- Following a cancellation of the opening night of Appalachian Mountain Speedweek presented by Selinsgrove Ford on Friday at Clinton County Speedway, The Speed Palace set the stage for the opening chapter of the week long challenge for the super late model series in Pennsylvania. Gregg Satterlee would take the lead with 14 laps remaining to claim the first win of the contest at Port Royal Speedway on Saturday night.
Trever Feathers and Trevor Collins would make up the front row of the 35 lap A-main event at the Juniata County half-mile with the sky just turning dark on the evening.
Feathers would make a good drive into turn 1 as the green flag waved to take the lead on the opening lap over Collins, as a handful of drivers would battle in side-by-side fashion for third through tenth.
Satterlee, who started the main event from the eighth position, would pick up a few spots on the opening lap, and find himself in a battle for a top five spot with Coleby Frye and then quickly Hayes Mattern for fourth with just four laps completed.
The caution flag would wave for the first time in the competition as Jason Covert, piloting the 43A and running in the third position, would find himself turned sideways and broken between turns three and four with twenty-nine laps remaining.
With the field reset, Feathers would continue to lead with Collins behind him Mattern in third followed by Satterlee and Frye rounding out the top five.
As the green flag came back out, Feathers would get right back out and front and Mattern would mount a charge on Collins to battle for the runner up position.
Mattern and Collins would swap spots momentarily, but Collins would get back around the Beavertown number nine, which allowed Satterlee to hit his rhythm on the inside of the track to get inside of Mattern and take the third position away with twenty-eight laps to go in the race.
With just eight laps completed, Satterlee seemed to have found his line on the lower side of the speedway as he would quickly reel in Collins and get by the 11AC for the second spot off of turn four with twenty-five laps left on the pylon.
Feathers, who had built up to over a one second lead, would start to see that advantage erased over the course of the next seven laps. Satterlee would go underneath Feathers looking for the lead with eighteen laps to go but wouldn't be able to complete the pass.
Feathers would work his tail off to hold off Satterlee during the next three laps, but the caution flag would come out with fifteen laps remaining for Colton Flinner who slowed to a stop on the back straightaway.
On the ensuing restart, Satterlee would work inside of Feathers for the lead with the two top drivers side-by-side at the start-finish line.
As they would head into turn one, the drivers would bang their doors fighting for the lead, forcing Feathers up the first corner, out of his rhythm, and allowing Satterlee to take the lead.
Satterlee would open up his lead to 1.249 seconds over the final fourteen laps and would hold on for the $5,000 win and the first of the speed week.
Jared Miley, who started fourteenth, would take the runner up spot and Trever Feathers would hold on to the final podium position.
Appalachian Mountain Speed Week will be in competition next at Path Valley on Tuesday June 10th after Hagerstown announced earlier Saturday that their event on Sunday would be cancelled.
In Weikert's Livestock 410 sprint car competition, Logan Wagner would go from his seventh starting spot to the front in ten laps and would lead the remaining fifteen to claim his first win at Port Royal in 2025.
Jake Karklin and Derek Hauck comprised the front row of the 25 lap A-main event with Karklin taking the lead on the opening circuit.
Karklin's lead however was not long lived as Gerard McIntyre Jr., piloting the number 33, would take the top spot in turn one at the start of the third lap.
Quickly following the lead change, a caution flag would come out for Dan Shetler who came to a stop in turns three and four. Wagner had quickly worked his way up to the third spot by this time.
Once the green flag was waved back to the field, Wagner would begin to work on Karklin for the second spot, taking it away from him in the first corner with twenty laps remaining.
Both McIntyre and Wagner would work around the top side of the corners over the next five laps, with the greater speed favoring the 55 of Wagner.
As the drivers would go into turn one with 15 laps remaining, Wagner would slide from the bottom to the top in front of McIntyre to take the lead, and he would set sail around The Speed Palace to take the win, notching his 23rd in his career.
Lance Dewease, who started in the eighth position, would claim the runner up spot and Justin Whittall, who started ninth, would finish in third.
Doug Hammaker would put together an impressive performance to earn Ramsey's Car Wash hard charger honors going from 18th to 7th, while the 17 pill was drawn in victory lane giving the J&S Classics Warrior Award to Kody Lehman worth $1,000.
Port Royal Speedway will be back in competition on Saturday June 14th for the Ron Zimmerman Tribute Race for the Zimmerman Truck Repair limited late models who will be competing for $6,000 to win as well as Weikert's Livestock 410 sprint cars on the card.
