Mechanicsburg – Persistent mist and drizzle forced cancellation of the scheduled opener of Pennsylvania Speedweek for 410 sprint cars at Williams Grove Speedway on Friday night.
The decision was made just after 6:30 pm.
Some 36 Lawrence Chevrolet 410 sprints were signed into the pits to compete in the series opener.
The track will host the prestigious Mitch Smith Memorial as part of Pennsylvania Speedweek next Friday night, July 4 at 7:30 pm.
The coveted event pays the winner $20,000 for his efforts.
Fireworks are part of the Independence Day show.
Speedweek now kicks off at the Lincoln Speedway on June 28.
