Mark Burch Motorsports Claims 360 Knoxville Nationals Preliminary Night Win

Inside Line Promotions - KNOXVILLE, Iowa (Aug. 6, 2013) - For the second straight season Mark Burch Motorsports and Danny Lasoski impressed at the 360 Knoxville Nationals.

Lasoski powered to a thrilling victory last Thursday during his preliminary night with a last-corner pass of Kyle Larson to open the 23rd annual Arnold Motor Supply 360 Knoxville Nationals at Knoxville Raceway.

The night began with Lasoski qualifying 10th quickest of the 48 competitors and maneuvering from fifth to fourth place during his heat race to lock into the feature.

"Everything is so important when you get here," he said. "You have to have a decent draw and a good qualifying effort. We made it through our heat, which is really tough."

With the top eight cars in points after the heat races inverted for the main event, Lasoski started on the outside of the second row.

"I made my mind up no matter what Kyle Larson did I was going to do the opposite on the first lap and it worked out for us," he said. "They dropped the green (flag) and as luck had it we rolled around them and took the lead on the first lap. We were putting down a pretty good pace and we got to lapped cars and here comes Larson. I guess it was game on and we went at it."

Lasoski worked traffic effectively until the final lap when he was slowed in turns one and two. Larson took the lead in the middle of turns three and four with a slide job, but Lasoski cut under him and won the drag race to the finish line by a car length.

After points were tallied from the two preliminary nights, Lasoski had the Mark Burch Motorsports entry ninth in points to start Saturday's $10,000-to-win feature on the inside of the fifth row.

"We had some issues on Saturday night," Lasoski said. "We lost oil pressure during hot laps and then we had our spare engine in for the A Main. But I'm very proud of the guys for working so hard and for the car that Mark gave me."

After losing oil pressure during the first lap of the A Main hot-lap session, the team changed engines for precautionary reasons prior to the main event. Lasoski advanced to fourth when a late-race restart bunched the field together. However, he dropped two positions with a slowing power plant in the final laps and was credited with a sixth-place finish.

"It's so important to be good all of the time," owner Mark Burch said. "We were confident that our backup engine was every bit as good as the one we took out. It certainly was strong enough to pass some really good competition during the first 20 laps. However, it just wasn't up to par at the end of the race. If you are going to win one of these big races you have to be perfect on all counts. And at that we failed. Our team did a fabulous job getting engines changed quickly. This gave me plenty of time to get a final read on the track and get our Wolfweld Chassis dialed in. I would like to thank Lannie Nichols, Landon Lasoski, Chris Straight and Brian Paulus for the extra help!"

It marked the second straight year Mark Burch Motorsports has won a preliminary feature at the 360 Knoxville Nationals and placed in the top 10 in the finale.

The duo plans to race together next Tuesday, Aug. 13, with the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series at Junction Motor Speedway in McCool Junction, Neb., for the NAPA Auto Parts Outlaw Showdown.
