Eldora Speedway Next for Great Lakes Super Sprints; Ohio CAT Division Champion Decided Saturday

Merrill, MI - On Saturday, August 2nd, the Ohio CAT Great Lakes Super Sprints Presented by PERFIT and ARP start the final month of the points-paying season in 2025. While kicking off the final month for the Tour, the Ohio CAT Division Championship will be decided on Saturday, with four drivers still in mathematical contention for the title.

Of Max Stambaugh’s eight wins this season, five have come as part of the Ohio CAT Division. All nine starts in Ohio this season have been top-five finishes, with his worst finish of fifth coming on July 4th at Limaland Motorsports Park. Stambaugh has been historically fast all night, having made the redraw in all nine Ohio shows.

Sitting 135 points back, Jared Horstman, a seven-time NRA Champion, which was transitioned to the Ohio Division of GLSS, needs things to go his way if he’s going to take a shot at Stambaugh for the Ohio CAT Championship. With a possible 225 points on the table for a perfect night, Horstman would need to set fast time, win his heat race, and win the feature while also having Stambaugh earn the minimum amount of points in Qualifying and the Heat Race. If Stambaugh qualified for the A-Main in that scenario, Stambaugh would need him to finish 17th or worse. Dustin Daggett and Devon Dobie are mathematically still in contention for the title, but would need perfect nights and Stambaugh to earn zero points for the night. Daggett sits 215 points back, with Dobie 220 points from the top of the Standings.

In the last few visits to Eldora Speedway, historic names in 360 Sprint Car Racing have controlled the narrative. Last year, Randy Hannagan started on the pole alongside Brad Lamberson. Lamberson stayed close to Hannagan but couldn’t complete the pass, giving ‘The Hurricane’ the win. In 2023, Hannagan held off Kyle Suader for the win over Jared Horstman and Lamberson who came from 12th to finish fourth.
