Friday night, August 1st was one of those magical nights at Tri City Raceway Park where everything just clicked—perfect weather, a packed grandstand, eight exciting feature events, and a whole lot of firsts. When the final checkered flag waved, six different drivers had picked up their first-ever wins at the track, and two of them celebrated their first career victories. From breakout performances to emotional finishes, it was an unforgettable night for fans and racers alike.
Things kicked off with the Hovis Auto & Truck Supply 410 Sprint Cars, and what a way to start. Young Dusty Larson, from Jefferson, Ohio, put on an absolute clinic, leading wire-to-wire in the 25-lap main to claim his first career win. The only caution of the race came early when Aaron Marano’s car stopped on the backstretch, but once they went back to green, Larson took off like a rocket. He built a four-second lead before Matt Farnham began to reel him in. With eight laps to go, that lead was down to just over a second, but Larson handled lapped traffic perfectly, hit his marks, and drove away again to seal the win.
It was an emotional Victory Lane moment for Larson, who said, “This is a huge relief. We’ve worked so hard for this, and to get it done at one of my favorite tracks, with my family here—it just means everything. Big thanks to my mom and dad, and everyone who helps out on this car.” Farnham finished second, followed by Bob Felmlee, Brandon Matus, and Logan McCandless. Heat race wins went to Farnham and McCandless.
That winning energy carried straight into the Flea Flicker Super Late Models, where Jon Lee wasted no time making his presence known. He grabbed the lead heading into turn one and never looked back, leading every lap with ease to collect his first Tri City win. The only thing that slowed him down were three early cautions—first for a spin by Matt Martin, then Del Rougeux on the restart, and one more for Ryan Scott’s broken car. After that, Lee simply checked out. His car was on rails, and he won by more than half a lap.
“This is big,” said Lee after the race. “We really like racing here, and the track was super fast tonight. Just excited for the whole team. They earned this one.” Points leader Darrell Bossard finished second, with Josh Ferry, Bob Dorman, and Matt Martin rounding out the top five. Bossard also picked up the heat race win.
The momentum kept going in the RUSH Sportsman Modifieds, where Todd English finally found Victory Lane at Tri City. Jacob Rutana led the early laps until the race’s only caution flew for Cole Edwards, whose car came to a stop on the backstretch. On the restart, English wasted no time—he charged to the cushion and powered around Rutana to take the lead. Rutana kept it close all the way to the finish, but English held firm.
After climbing out of his car, English grinned and said, “Finally got it done at Tri City! This one’s for my family and crew. And big thanks to Russ King Racing—we couldn’t have done this without them.” Rutana held on for second, followed by Cole Holden, Karsten King, and Kyle Hanshaw.
In the RUSH Stock Cars, fans were treated to a thrilling back-and-forth battle between Raidden Wilson and Cameron Kramer. Kramer led the first two laps until a caution flew for Billy Myers Sr. After the restart, Wilson made his move halfway down the backstretch and took the top spot—but that was just the beginning. For the next 13 laps, Kramer kept the pressure on, trying everything in the book to get back around Wilson. On the final lap, he gave it one last dive into turns three and four—but spun, handing the win to Wilson, who picked up his third victory of the season.
“That was a hard-fought one,” said Wilson. “Cameron raced me clean, and we gave the fans a good show. These are the nights you race for.” Darr Diegelman finished second, with William Baker third, Kramer recovering for fourth, and Cole Laskey fifth.
The Shawgo Real Estate Pro Stocks feature was another highlight, especially for longtime Tri City racer Curt Bish. Early on, it looked like Rod Laskey, making his season debut, was the car to beat. But after two cautions—one for Jake Whitling’s steering failure and another when Aaron Smith hit the frontstretch wall—Bish found his groove. Starting tenth, he worked the cushion to perfection and took the lead on lap eight, then pulled away to grab his sixth career win at the track.
Bish was emotional in Victory Lane, dedicating the win to his late aunt. Laskey held on for second, followed by Bobby Whitling, Matt Bernard, and Pat Fielding. Heat wins went to Fielding and Josh Seippel.
There was even more emotion during the make-up Pro Stock feature from June 13, when Joe Stajnajh Jr. led every lap to score his first career victory at Tri City. The only caution came on lap one for debris, and from there, it was smooth sailing—but that didn’t mean it was easy. With Curt Bish right on his tail, Stajnajh had to be perfect every lap, and he was. He was nearly speechless after the win, holding back tears as he dedicated the victory to a family member dealing with serious health issues. “This is huge for us,” he said. “We’ve been working so hard, and to finally get this win—it means everything.”
Bish finished second, with Jake Whitling, Bobby Whitling, and Seippel rounding out the top five.
And to cap off a night full of firsts, the Complete Car Center RUSH Sprint Cars ran two features—and both produced first-time winners. In the regularly scheduled feature, young Luke Mulichak led flag-to-flag for his first career win in the RUSH series and at Tri City. He showed incredible poise, especially through five caution flags, and never let Wyatt Long get by. “We’ve been close before,” Mulichak said. “But tonight, we put it all together. Huge thanks to my family and our team—this gives us a lot of confidence.”
Joe Buccola finished third, with Blaze Myers and Zach Morrow rounding out the top five. Heat races earlier in the night went to Devon Deeter and Blaze Myers.
Then came the make-up feature, and this time it was Zach Morrow’s turn to shine. He jumped out front early and led all 15 laps for his first Tri City win. Despite a trio of cautions—including a spin by Mulichak and a mechanical failure from Trent Marshall—Morrow stayed sharp and didn’t put a wheel wrong. “Finally got one!” Morrow said with a huge smile. “Tim Engles and the crew gave me a great car, and we’re getting better every week. This is big for our team.”
Myers was second, followed by Ricky Tucker II, Joe Buccola, and Cooper Fritz.
