Re: 8/10 Worthington Speedway Sprint Special, featuring the Sprint Car Bandits series
34 sprint cars and an abundance of sunshine greeted a packed Worthington Speedway grandstands. But it was Scott Winters, a.k.a. the Butterfield Badboy, who stole the show, at the first annual Worthington Speedway Sprint Special, presented by Wyffels Hybrids.
Dash winner Brogan Carder, set a blistering pace early, with Scott and Jody Rosenboom in tow. Meanwhile, Sam Henderson was charging to the front to join the fray. On lap 20, Winters rolled the bottom to perfection and squeezed ahead of Carder off turn two!
With just two laps remaining, the caution flag flew, setting up the first attempt at a green-white-checkered finish. On the restart, Carder drove to the bottom in turn three to reclaim the lead but caught the infield tire and got upside down. Sam Henderson, who had started 10th, got next to Rosenboom on the same restart. It was total pandemonium!
On the second green-white-checkered attempt, Scott Winters was able to hold on for the win, followed by Jody Rosenboom, Sam Henderson (Hard Charger), and Brandon Bosma, who had a spirited battle with Cole Vanderheiden for fifth!
“This is my first sprint car win in 9 years, so this one means a lot! It’s pretty special,” exclaimed Winters
Heat race wins went to Gaige Weldon, who charged from 6th to 1st, Brogan Carder, Jody Rosenboom, who charged from 5th to 1st, and Dylan Opdahl.
Top point earners, a combination of finish and passing points, out of each heat race, were Gaige Weldon (Heat 1), Scott Winters (Heat 2), Jody Rosenboom (Heat 3), and Cole Vanderheiden (Heat 4).
Brandon Halverson picked up the win in the B feature.
Thank you to our fans, our sponsors, our drivers, and our officials for making last night’s race extra Special!
